aspiration
noun
A hope or ambition of achieving something.
Example: If people are not so close with their family, they are free to pursue their own dreams and aspirations, and to focus on improving their own lifestyle.
decline
verb
Become smaller, fewer, or less; decrease.
Example: One of the first reasons for a decline in the closeness of families is connected to the busy lifestyles that we now lead.
drawback
noun
A feature that renders something less acceptable; a disadvantage or problem.
Example: This essay will discuss the reasons for this and examine the benefits and drawbacks of this development.
interact
verb
Act in such a way as to have an effect on each other.
Example: Modern technology also means that people are more interested in their online life than interacting with their family in their free time.
lifestyle
noun
The way in which a person lives.
Example: One of the first reasons for a decline in the closeness of families is connected to the busy lifestyles that we now lead.
materialistic
adjective
Excessively concerned with material possessions; money-oriented.
Example: Another factor is the materialistic and consumer driven culture we now live in, which has led to less value being placed on family relationships.
online
adjective
Controlled by or connected to a computer.
Example: Modern technology also means that people are more interested in their online life than interacting with their family in their free time.
outcome
noun
The way a thing turns out; a consequence.
Example: We should try to halt this trend as it has more negative than positive outcomes.
pursue
verb
Follow or chase (someone or something).
Example: If people are not so close with their family, they are free to pursue their own dreams and aspirations, and to focus on improving their own lifestyle.
trend
noun
A general direction in which something is developing or changing. / a fashion.
Example: There has been a trend over recent decades for families to become less close than they were in the past.
